Senior Engineering Project Lead - UTC Aerospace Systems - Phoenix, AZ

Position Overview:
Because of a strategic commitment, United Technologies Aerospace Systems (UTAS) created the Electronic Systems Center (ESC) headquartered in scenic Phoenix, AZ. The ESC supports a wide variety of UTAS aerospace products with state-of-the-art engineering development, testing, and production facilities and expertise. The ESC team designs, tests, builds, and supports electronic control units and systems for primary flight control systems, high-lift systems, electronic and hydraulically actuated brake control systems, and many other products for all parts of the United Technologies Enterprise.

As a Project Lead Engineer (Project Manager / IPT Lead) you will be responsible for the project management and technical leadership of Integrated Project Teams (IPTs) for developing and certifying cutting-edge electronic systems for such aircraft platforms and manufacturers as Airbus A350/A380/A320, Boeing 777 & 787, Bombardier C-Series, Embraer, Irkut MC21, and other aircraft. You will work closely with the Program Managers and other UTAS Strategic Business Units and aircraft manufacturers in the United States, United Kingdom, France, India, Brazil, Russia, and other locations.

Primary Responsibilities:
The successful Project Lead will be a self-starter, quick learner, will be adept at leading cross-functional, multi-site/multi-national engineering and engineering support teams toward on-time delivery of customer deliverables and products. The Project Lead will excel at the customer focus and a bias for action for the execution of multiple projects with responsibility for meeting project cost, schedule, and quality targets in a fast-paced and exciting environment. This will include development of new products through a full engineering and DO-254/DO-178C certification lifecycle, sustainment and value engineering, and existing product transfer to best-cost sourcing and manufacturing areas. The focus of this Project Lead position will be on leading the development of manual and automated test system projects to support the new product development projects. This will include liaising with product development teams in Phoenix and India, and managing subcontract teams and suppliers.

The Project Lead must be skilled in developing detailed resource-loaded schedules, earned value management techniques and reporting, critical path assessment, schedule & cost assessment, scope management, and risk management. The most required skill of the successful Project Lead is clear, effective communication - communication to your IPT (in Phoenix and India), Program Manager, management team, customers, and suppliers.

Other Project Lead responsibilities include coordination and utilization of resources of the global ESC team in Phoenix AZ, Bangalore India, and other potential international sites to effectively meet customer requirements, customer technical & project communications, meeting cost, schedule, and performance targets in the use of improved project management processes and tools.

Leadership:
The Project Manager leads Integrated Product Teams through full life-cycle development with minimal amount of supervision and direction from the engineering manager. All members of the Project Leadership team are responsible for identifying and leading initiatives for continuous process improvements.

Required:
A BS degree with at least 4 years of experience or MS degree with at least 2 years of experience in engineering, or product design in the Aerospace Industry.
At least 2 years of experience in Project Management in the Aerospace Industry.
Must be a US Person.
Experience in development of complete project plans using Microsoft Project, including schedule, budget and resource planning; evaluation of technical decisions against schedule and budgetary constraints.
Experience with development of manual and automated test systems for engineering development and production.

Preferred:
MS degree in engineering or management.
Experience and familiarity with the full aerospace product hardware/software development and certification (DO-254, DO-178B/C) lifecycle including: systems engineering (ARP4754A), requirements analysis, design, development, integration, and qualification testing (DO-160, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810).
PMP Certification
Experience working in the MS Project Server environment.
Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS).
Experience with high reliability controller electronics and power switching circuitry.
Familiarity with DAL A hardware and firmware developed, designed, and tested according to the requirements of DO-254.
Familiarity with software developed, designed and tested according to the requirements of DO-178B or DO-178C Level A or B.
Development of Project Planning documents, Systems documents, Certification Test Plans, Reliability & Safety documents, and other documents required for aircraft development and certification.
System level requirements definition experience taking into account SAE ARP 4754, Fault Tree/System Safety Assessments, FAA/EASA regulations.
